So while Victoria is being rehabilitated Theo. is implicitly being torn down right? This "rescue" arc is actually more about "rescuing" Vicky than Theo.
MC goes to "rescue" Theo, finds her beyond saving, goes on another revenge spree. At least that's where it seems like it's heading. Anyone disagree?

Gods this flashback is super long, innit?
Oh good it wasn't just me who was thinking this.

Author. You're not going to redeem her. You're not gonna walk back that statement of "If she hadn't already had those desires, the gods wouldn't have been able to do anything to her". The desire was there, so they did, so she did. Stop wiggling the handles and looking over at the audience like "Is it working? Are you sympathetic yet?" because for most of us it isn't gonna work. Move On.

I’m not particularly fond of lengthy flashbacks of no interest that are obviously filler arcs to pad out content like an anime of an ongoing series trying to buy time for the manga to make more chs so they can continue making episodes without stopping production (one piece is particularly notorious for having anime-only non-canonical filler arcs because there’s only so much Oda-sensei and his assistants can draw before his health demands a break)

Ugh another flashback chapter. Guess the author is running out of ideas and is just buying time with this one.

Torture room wasn't as bad as I'd imagined.

Maybe it's just me giving the author the benefit of the doubt, but I think it's less "making you like Victoria" than allowing the characters to "fall" into depravity.

I mean look at Raoul, before his betrayal, he would be horrified at what he had and would become. They are polar opposites yet the same person, molded by the events of the story. He goes from genuinely good person, to a horrific monster, even if he's only a monster to his enemies.

It seems like the comments generally accept this change but not Victoria's, even when they're seemingly being manipulated by the same forces, why is that?

There's always a problem when the most tempting evil in your life is the one you consider the holiest...

Though you can't tell that to certain people, they get all kinds of testy when the truth's thrown at them.

So I think this is doing a decent job of showing that the gods and setting is so fucked up that basically anyone/everyone is doomed from the start which I'm not sure is the intention?

I feel like we are going to get a Victoria ended up trading away her kindness/empathy to save Raoul because the gods just love watching the living world suffer and it will make things more tragic down the line. That basically this and the love goddess meant she never had a chance.

Unfortunately it is the attendants not Raoul peering into the past so I'm not seeing any interesting outcome from this?

F this. No more actual story just a poor retcon.
I cant bring myself to care abt ts flashback trying to justify the marriage between them, the guy is already insane, if he married a blow up doll it would make enough sense as is, but trying to build a character that was, supposedly, dead is... I don't even have a word for this level of retardation

Well, the god in this flashback is the one that Raoul imitates to trick King Kurtz, so the author's cooking up something. Raoul would've somehow met this god already in order to know what they look like, maybe even killed them off screen before the events of the manga. I'd be interested to see what the story is of that encounter. To go one step further, perhaps Raoul himself had a hand in how Victoria turned out.

Yeah but it should be too late for Theo. Before this flashback even began she was being dragged off to be raped and impregnated. The author would have to use a lot of time dilation excuses to have her be rescued before anything happens.

You're wrong twice over, since Oda himself said that the filler arcs in the anime to date are storylines that he wanted to draw but had to cut for time or because he couldn't flesh them out properly in the manga, thus functionally/technically canonical, and the anime is specifically changing format ("for season 2" is so stupid, but technically correct) to slow down the pacing and instead match manga release speed better.

Filler in one piece are usually connected to the manga or it was created for the upcoming movies. The only filler I remember that has no connection to the story were the monster trio acting like a mafia boss in a chibi-like art style and the alternate Samurai settings and lastly the G8 arc.

Is this really kid Raoul or an illusion that a god made to trick Victoria? If not, I doubt Raoul would remain a cordial relationship with the kingdom after seeing this and if he know about this event, every move he make before his revenge he would be cautious to the people of the kingdom and his party, (except for the sage) after all if I remember right they were formed by the kingdom. (I might be mistaken about the part)

So if I have to guess it's either an Illusion or a kid Raoul that got his memory wiped.
