The author really likes throwing random people into the plot, it might be because I'm skimming this flashback 4 Victoria redemption arc, but who was chained to the wall again?
I feel like author just pulled some rando out of his ass like with the mages from the arc after Raoul defeated the hell god.

absolutely true, but it's more that the author started changing the story after it gathered a bunch of popularity from what it seems. it definitely started off differently, these are pretty much different characters altogether

I also agree that the Flashback arc really introduced a loophole as Raoul somehow managed to display some Sherlock Holmes-tier of deduction as a kid, but couldn't foresaw the betrayal from his party and the general as an adult…?

I guess the Gods really did something to him as well.

I think it's not that deep. As Raoul said himself, Neumann was already seen behaving in a strange and obsessive manner in public.

Not to mention that he wasn't part of Raoul's circle of people he put his child-like trust and respect into, unlike Wendel and General Brown.
He could suss out a single man, a stranger, but Raoul never could have expected that all the upstanding people he was closest to for years were rotten to the core.

Fucking gods above, let this arc end already. Nobody gives a shit about Victoria, this is so contrived and artificial, it's like the author saw the popularity charts, and started retconning the story.
& I also agree that it's odd that Raoul can cleverly figure out the culprit, but was completely blind to the mechanations of his allies later in life.

Is it really redemption? If it's going the way we think it's going it's less so redemption more so another reason for Raoul to hate the gods. Like if it is revealed that we saw a mind controlled by a god Victoria is not responsible for her actions unless you think her bargaining to save his life was a bad thing.
Like that's not really redemption it's an explanation.

Practically, maybe it’s the question of how can I get more use out of Victoria after this. There’s also the possibility of wanting to put in the good old double heroine factor into the story.

I’m still holding out for details of the deal. The god says the deal is merging, yet we haven’t seen that happen, nor how it will influence her.

As for the Victoria haters... I wonder if they would be fine if Raoul just shove her out of the story because he’s done with her. No more punishment, no more appearance in the story. Or their sadistic streak would still demand more torture porn out of her because it’s “justified”.
