It's actually quite possible to make cases for propositions that are genuinely obvious, whereas a belief that only seems obvious may be greatly mistaken, and hence impossible to defend reasonably.

I think that, in the end, you're left here with no more than a personal preference — that it's not the story would be a cop-out if the sister didn't have to pass-on; it's just that you wouldn't find it satisfying. You could likewise prefer that the werewolf die. *shrug*
