Several hours 5-10 x 2 mph for ox wagon, is the village 10-20 miles from the city?. So I assume he could occasionally walk home for a visit during the 2 years at school? Seems close enough for village chief's family to visit, too, but the uncle never saw neice after birth? Oh well

An ox wagon would move twice as fast as a person walking. So if it takes the ox several hours, it'd take him a whole day to get back. So probably, yes but I don't know how common that is.
