They don't know what fucking bricks are?

This is absolutely what I thought when I read the panel.

Like, the manga is nicely drawn, but damn, the level of stupidity of the people in the setting and the absurd easiness with which the MC is resolving all issues, is not great.

My thrist for entertainment hopes he knocks himself down trying to headbutt a brick wall and shows us some interesting realistic struggle.

I hope we don't live in a simulation world made by people with this kind of thrist, though.

I hope...

Thanks for translating this chapter!

Imagine starting over from now, with all the knowledge and technology we have right now, how many branches on the tech tree can you just outright bypass for your new settlement? This world is in new game plus, and people have been min/maxing every generation, to the point that only rich villages teach math and most people don't read. They covered this when Ash started his research into fertilizers, the Church has a stack of books they are supposed to pass on to every new village, and they've been leaving books off the list that people think don't make sense as a necessity.
Now that I think about it, how could they have swords and armor, blacksmithing, and not have fire brick?

Leftover forges (and lower efficiency stone replicas), with Blacksmiths being apprenticed to people with the skills, just like with the beekeeping, even if they keep the book with their techniques recorded, the knowledge is lost when people die without passing it on.

Edit: it's like how ruins in Fallout have some fully functional workshop facilities you can use as is, and if necessary you can scrap just about anything you see, including some buildings, to build your own back home.

Ah, maybe the reason why Ash's uncle gives off an odd vibe is because, rather than ash theoretically being his child, ash's mother was his first love - thus the reasoning for the odd look, he's the child of the woman he loves.
