Disappointing he didn't just make a paper airplane to instantly put the bullies in their place

Yeah the technology jump seems too far
But that aside, how can those 3 people still make fun of them when ash is helping and ash literally get medal and advancing civilization of the village (and the town) for several hundred years?

Almost no one aside from friends and family knows/understands what he is doing. The rudimentary science, hasn't gone past the village. The Aloe is a beauty product, only being traded amongst the rich adults. And it's not like those customers would be told who invented/developed it. The merchant and the FMC's extended family control the distribution network and the profits. They don't want to lose their golden goose. These bullies are tweens/teens who are in grade school. They're being taught pretty basic fundamentals for a modern society. They're not being taught about science or technology. Ash and co. are pretty much on independent study, since they can all read and do math already.

And, Ash is getting a medal for bravery, not for science. And again, these are teens, can you imagine how teen bullies would mock a person who got an award?

@Solaz That was also my first thought. A paper airplane is the easiest thing to counter their bullying. It's pretty simple to make a toy wooden glider. And the Toy stick "Helicopters"(propellers on a stick) are simple to construct as well. Easiest construction would be an unpowered glider. And a Hot Air Balloon next. Actual engines are a quite a leap, but there are a ton of intermediate steps with the basic concept.

I thought it was a huge jump but know I realise that it's less about Ash being an inventor and more about Ash rediscovering the ancient sciences that was left behind from the old world. This is, despite how it looks, a post-apocalyptic universe. The world has ended and people, without a hint of knowledge of the past, is just going through the same motions as humanity. However, the blueprint still exists; it just needs to be found and deciphered.

It seems like a huge jump to us is because this is technology we're absolutely familiar with. But in reality, this isn't that different from when Master Chief landed on a Halo. Just a really medieval version of that.
