The tropes are self-fulfilling prophecies. The successful storeis have them, so you need to have them to be a successful story. A fallacious way of thinking leading to the copycat plague.

I quite happy to have only gotten a tournament arc, and kipped all this tripe.
I'm just happy we haven't had a moment where the MC teaches the stupid savage natives of the world the value of dipping in some warm water, as if no one has ever tried it before, because the japanese apparently invented bathing.
