Are people really not paying attention? The MC is helping them out strictly for his own ends. Him and the girls.

If the newspaper club gets downgraded to a more informal hobby group or society, they'll keep chasing scandals and gossip. Both because it's all they can think to do, and out of desperation to be a club again. And with paparazzi prowling the school at all times, the three would have to be perpetually watching their backs; it would only be a matter of time until their relationship gets outed.

So instead they're helping the club with the intention of making the school newspaper a proper newspaper again. Doing that will encourage them to stop chasing gossip and scandal, and it will make the club indebted to the trio. Meaning much less likely to write anything nasty about the trio without their knowledge. Especially if the one sister actually gets invested in the club and decides to stick around.

"Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer."
So, because mc is essentially giving in due to threats from the newspaper club im supposed to continue to enjoy this plotline?
Thats practically what you're saying, literally give in to your bullies attitude, they are doing something bad, pay them off so they will stop doing the bad thing.

Why should the main character need to make an incompetent newspaper club indebted to him? Why should the sister feel the need to actually get invested in a club that is very willing to do scummy things literally just for publicity?

Have been paying attention, still firmly believe the club should be disbanded, them spreading gossip and scandals is already scummy, dont reward that by helping them, even if you can loosely argue that you would benefit from it.

Oh my... no, he is not giving in to their blackmail or threats. They outright dismantled all of that, turned it on the newspaper club, and could have left the newspaper club to have been demoted. But doing that does not solve the problem. The problem being that these people are either desperate and/or unhinged enough to keep chasing scandals and gossip, and being demoted to a hobby group or society won't stop that. Which means they will be prowling around and inevitably sniff out something regarding the relationship between the MC and the sisters.

So instead of letting things get to that point, the trio are choosing to help the newspaper club succeed without using gossip or scandals. Showing them that don't have to resort to playing paparazzi, and can function as a proper, constructive, informative school newspaper. Because if the club succeeds by publishing a proper newspaper following the proper processes, they won't need to go hunting for scoops anymore. No more reason to go chasing stories, no more paparazzi tactics, no more risk that the club members discover the relationship between the sisters and the MC.

So, just to reiterate: the whole point of this is to get the club to STOP spreading gossip and scandals, by showing them that there is a better way to accomplish their goals. Because getting the club disbanded or demoted will NOT accomplish that, as the main characters discussed. If anything they'll just become even more unhinged, because they'll have more incentive to prove themselves so they can become a proper club again.

Y'know those cliche movies where "problem children" are written off as lost causes, until a teacher comes along and gives them a means to express and apply themselves in a meaningful and productive way? Or even sports/action manga where an aimless delinquent is introduced to a sport or activity they end up interested in and passionate about, to the point it helps them turn their life around? Similar situation, smaller scale. It's not rewarding the newspaper club for their bad behavior; it's putting a stop to the bad behavior by helping them. After which the trio will have earned a lot of good will from the newspaper club by helping them turn things around. Good will that will further prevent the newspaper club from sniffing around or trying to expose them in the future.

it kinda feels like next chapter will be about MC introducing his two future wives to his aunt. and honestly, I think Mitsumi will just instantly approve them :02: and Chikage here is way too panicky and overreacting compared to Hikari, for what barium test and X-ray ?? :dogkek:

Who's that person on probation Auntie is refering to, tho... ? ... MC Parents !?
Honestly a romcom where the MC is a defense attorney with the main Love Interest(s) being a bunch of convicts would be hilarious. Just give us a few who are truly innocent, one who is actively a psychotic murderer, and then make the Judge a twist Love Interest who is getting off on watching some of their love rivals get carted off to jail.

I dunno about the MC, but I definitely wanna hear that story. How does someone go from #1 in academics to a convict on probation? Depending on the context, and adding in the aunts prior feelings, you could have a whole rom-com right there.

"I Was Convicted, and Now My High-School Rival is My Defense Attorney!"
Looks at my profile picture
I may have some ideas...

Same. What's a couple of criminal charges when weighed against true love?

I suspect the aunt will immediately deduce the truth about their relationship.

I'd say its closer to someone bullying you because they can't read and you can and then you teach them how to read.

Ah yes, recap the plot that im well aware of to me, pretty sure ive expressed that im well aware of the circumstances here, i just dont find it compelling and even if you can argue that there are valid reasons for why mc could do all that, theres a reason its a teacher in those cliche movies you speak about that handles it.

They're an authority figure with a responsibility in regards to the kids, mc is literally only doing it because if he doesnt they COULD CAUSE HARM TO HIM LATER. A teacher, like the one that pushed this task onto mc, should be the one handling this, the fact that mc is the one doing it i find to be a weak plot point that just feels like its there to introduce drama in an odd way. Me saying i do not enjoy this so im going to move on, does not mean i havent been paying attention.

You can frame it differentely if you want, but a perspective that i feel is fair to have here is: The newspaper club has been doing scummy shit for a while, finally the school is having an audit because they are doing scummy shit to try and steer them back on course, so they try to blackmail the auditor to avoid having to face reprecussions.

I, personally, do not care for an arc focused and centered around trying to help them out after the fact, wether its out of mc being morally righteous and wanting to steer the youth back onto the right path, or, out of fear that they might become a bigger nuisance later. Let the audit go through, if they keep doing scummy shit have them punished by an authority figure, or, tell a teacher and try to let them handle it, those would be options i would all be okay with just to continue the story along as examples, but story is starting to show a pattern i do not believe ill enjoy reading so im moving on, is that alright with you?

At this point I’m okay with them receiving help only if they are punished in some way. Had it been a normal student instead of our ”smart” MC, their life would have gone to shit due to the rumors.

Completely fair, its outrageous that they attempted something like this, and seemingly have done "similar" things in the past.
