I love Lan so much. She immediately told Lerunda to doubt the kingdoms and to not run off to offer herself for the beastfolk's protection.
There has been so many cliches in manga where characters would run away to sacrifice themselves in order to protect their friends, only to find out that that sacrifice just pretty much condemned their friends since the villain no longer needs to hold back.

I don't know if the Lerunda was told directly, but someone said that the miko's will is assisted by god basically. so w.e the miko wants they basically get. If people go against it they are crushed. those who try to help the miko are rewarded.

I genuinely despise when a story is so lazy that they use the "demi-humans are perfect and peaceful while humans are evil and hateful" parallel to try and mimic racial tension in the real world. Its why ive come to hate elves and other demi human species because they're just allegories for blacks and natives that only show a surface level understanding of the actual historical events refrenced. Just come up with a single origial conflict point for once guys. Its really not hard to imagine something people are fighting about besides "racewar" BS. Its the same level of political injection that you see in modern film that immediately take you out of the story and force you to remember how shitty life really is. If i wanted to remember how fucked the world was id turn on the damn news.

Especially that "im sorry on behalf of the humans" like the actions of a few represent all of us and even those of us who arent responsible are required to apologize. Attributing the actions of a few to the entirety of a population is just as racist as calling them a racial slur or treating them negatively based on their race, or in this case, species. Though there is room to argue that some kinds of demi-humans are close enough to humans as to be categorized as a separate race rather than species. The cat dude acting hostile to a small child that doesn't understand whats going on and a woman that never did anything to harm him is just as bad as the humans saying all beastmen are unthinking animals

I feel like at a major tipping point in the story Lan; her mentor will likely sacrifice herself to save Lena from a devastating blow

I wish Lan could've told Lerunda that even if she wasn't the Miko the same thing will still happen (with just a different girl, like her sister and actually that's exactly what's happening now), so it's really not her fault. And it really can't be her fault since she was never under the control of any human country.

But I love that she opened her eyes from the naive notion that her sacrifice could help: humans can be treacherous after all.

If only Lerunda can keep hiding in this village forever and live a slow and peaceful life with the people who love her. But I feel sure she'll be found out eventually and conflict is bound to happen. I hope when that time comes they are ready for it.
