So there is no more doubt that village chief Athos has died. We can probably forget about peaceful coexistence for a while and both Lerunda and Lan will just be exceptions living with a community of beastkin.
I was saddened at first that they (Lerunda and Lan) had to leave the village, until I realized that EVERYONE is leaving the village with them, it's not a matter of kicking the humans out or the humans leaving to keep the beastkin safe, but everyone becoming refugees to avoid the coming conflict. Indeed, even if Lerunda and Lan left there's no guarantee the humans will not raze their village to the ground and enslave all of them.
Just as how Gaius reminded her of a reason to live, I hope she too will lend him the strength to be strong in this painful time in his life.
