I keep seeing these dark elf characters in manga and they're hardly ever dark-skinned, evil or repulsive, contrary to western fantasy. Instead, they're often seen as a bad omen, and they get persecuted and enslaved for no reason other than prejudice.
The more I think about the more it makes sense to me that authors see the 'dark' part and interpret it as a kuro gyaru archetype ('black' gals) - flashy delinquent-looking beauties who tend to be kind to otaku, at least in manga.

Is that a hard requirement? Most of these so-called gyaru I saw in manga weren't tanned at all, and while often suspected of being promiscuous they tended to be perfectly maidenly, just like some of them 'dark elves'.
Blond hair is a common theme in both cases - a very Japanese stereotype for delinquency.

in real life maybe but in a game it is indeed slow, after all you do a few things and wait for everything to grow, so in a way it is more slow life than grinding on dungeons for itens hahahah

the most unrealistic part about that is that in other mmos/vr stuff it would've been a man in a cute girl avatar (tho who knows other than a voice changer maybe this VR game just uses everyone's real voice, tho in that case you'd think other than everyone starting with 'beginner' charas the 'scrawniness' would've been a choice lol) (tho the cliche pickup i don't think i've ever seen work versus the person turning the tables on them and being femdom or some cute crossdressing boy making a move lol)

There are basically two demihuman species that are more feminine than ordinary humans - elves and catgirls.
And Japanese lack manliness to associate themselves with any race manlier than a human, such a a wolf-person or a dwarf. They'd rather see a guy MC reincarnate as an elven beauty.

There need to be more manga where MC is a cute wolf-boy.
