Woah! He came clean to his classmates!
I was expecting for him to have his lies come out and bite him, perhaps by him stealing the money that his mother had sent so he could flash it around at school, and then being pressured to buy everybody lunch or something. When word will get back to his grandmother, he would get thrashed to within an inch of his life, and then she would make him get a job that would be humiliating and very public .
Instead, it worked out quite nicely and without much trouble. He really dodged a bullet there, and in part that is because he came to a good realization and made an honest effort to come clean. A lesson in itself.
