So was there really a reason that random words needed to be bolded even though the sentence needed no extraneous emphasis?

It just seemed a good idea at the time... Sorry.
I'll avoid that going forward, along with many other things, and will redo it after catching up.

Thank you so much for picking this up! Reminds me how much I loved their antics and dynamic.

The reason you can't find reference for Essaim is that it's actually spelled Etz Chaim (lit. Tree of Life), part of a Jewish prayer. Some anime using Judaism aesthetic for aesthetic transliterated it as Elohim Essaim way back in the day and that's just how Japan spells it now.

I'm pretty sure is an old transliteration of the same word (the currently accepted ones are Etz Chaim and Etz Hayim, partly because of the standardized transliteration rules, and possibly to distinguish it from the French word essaim, which means "swarm of bees"). The main difference (ss versus tz/ṣ) can be chalked up to phonetic evolution of the languages.

For use in prayer, it means "Torah" as a double metaphore (the term is used as a metaphore for the wooden poles manuscripted Torah scrolls are rolled around, then as a metaphore for the scroll itself), and in Proverbs it seems to be used as a comparison or likeness to blessed things (like the result of righteous actions or fulfilled desires). I'm pretty sure that both here and in the ending, the meaning would be the latter one (i.e. "hurrah for this blessing of a [insert here what you are thankful for]!").

The Japanese often use Orthodox, Roman or Jewish/Semitic elements in quasi-Christian aesthetics because they potentially think it looks cooler or "gothic". Because they see mainstream image of Catholic Christianity as the default Christianity, and other movements as more ancient for some reason.

I'm confused, is she supposed to be an angel or something, or is there some kind of hierarchy with the halo thing, or is she not an angel?

You mean Marciel? She is an angel..., I... think...?. I think that's a wing. She can go toe to toe with Zeruel Onee-chama if nothing else. I don't think she ever showed an halo now that you say so, but Heaven/Hell society is more or less the same as Earth. Satanya's parents are bakers, Vigne's mom is a normal housewife in a normal middle class house and so on.
Not that halos mean much.
