the pope is "the undead king" or something like that( the translation is a bit weird ), a undead lich who almost destroyed the world a few hundred years back
all the high ranking people in the church is also undeads that he created himself after the 7 deadly sins, witch is somewhat obvious if you look closer at their names.
he single handedly created every single undead we have seen up to this point with the help of his religion over a few centuries that he have been alive.
Even bigger spoilers
The pope of the church is like Arc, a transported player in the body of a undead.
The strange thing is however that Arc was playing an RPG, while the pope was playing an RTS/ amry builder game.
He have also gone quite insane from his time as an undead and also believes himself to be locked inside the game witch is why he have no regard for life, as its just a game to him.
@TrueGoddessReincarnation Same way all powerful people have died: foul play. Even if you're the strongest in the world, unless you're immune to poison and your skin is so tough that a blade can't get through it, there's nothing stopping someone from just poisoning your evening meal or slitting your throat in your sleep.
[ul][/ul]For all of Ainz' abilities, I'm rather disappointed that he only does one resurrection (to the princess). You'd think that he could purify her brother's body & resurrect him. Heh. I mean, for one, they could keep it a secret, and two, it would have provided them with considerable information. Heh.
I get not wanting Ainz' to be too OP, but this doesn't particularly help matters in my opinion. [Facepalm]
Does said player lose his mind entirely when he realizes that these people were actually living, breathing people, with lives, bodies, souls, etc., and he's guilty of genocide on an incalculable level? 🤔 Or, does the MC just one shot him with his biggest spell?
the pope is basically Ainz from overlord except he dont have crazy OP minions in a castle and have been around for a really long time.
His undead while powerful are not on the level of demigods like in overlord but is "only" really strong.
He has however been creating more and more of them in over 100+ years time.
So there is ALOT of them hidden all around the world.
Arc tries to talk to the pope while fighting him, but he is too far gone because of the emotionally suppressing effect being undead have.
He is dead set on believing that the world is a game and acusses Arc of "cheating" as his character is clearly overpowered and breaks the game balance.
Eventually Arc manages to throw a bottle of spring water on him and the backlash of transforming back into a human straight out kills the pope as its too much of a burden on his centuries old soul.
The pope dies with his last words being something along the line of " with this i can finally go home"
Its implied that the pope realised at some point that the world wasn't the game he knew, but refused to accept it because of the implications it would have.
