Of course I should have expected a tactless fetishy rape scene from a narrative that spent the previous 81 pages ogling and going completely bonkers over a character not wearing underpants. What was I thinking lol
The conjecture about what happened to this series seems kinda baseless and dumb, but goddamn it, I'll subscribe to my own headcanon as well if it means I get any closure to this saga. I wonder if the author's been working under a different penname following the end of this manga.

Okay so it seems this manga is making its rounds. A lot of misunderstandings. This wasn't fetish rape, this was pure unadulterated "no your waifu is shit" full with put her in the trash can, and attempted rape to further drive the point.
This wasn't the axe at chapter 9 or 10, anyone saying that had a mind blank at chapter 8, 8.1, 8.2, etc etc to 8.999999999. it's very clear the vindictive mangaka started at least then if not earlier. Clear case of editor telling them that a Gal female main character wouldn't be well received and they needed the typical black hair waifu bait. Then the mangaka going "fuck you you're waifu is shit" for as long as humanely possible.
This is the problem with binge readers, they didn't experience this happen in real(ish) time. All the parts of chapter 8 happened on its regular weekly(?) release schedule to inflate the "chapter" count past the 10 or 13 they were probably either originally given or negotiated down to for not complying with the forcing in black hair Yamato nadeshiko waifu. Endless eight was the loophole/middle finger to the editor.
Bakuman is mandatory reading for any manga reader that doesn't just want to consume product and get ready for next product. It adds context to the dynamic between editor and mangaka.
