That’s basically the premise of the gal-and-dino-roommate manga that the author’s spouse cooked up, and frankly, that doesn’t sound bad at all. Maybe there’s some interesting college/salaryman/gal hijinks to be had with the magical creature…I didn’t see any indications the mangaka is wrapping this one up.

yeah tbh seeing a female lead that isn't actually a perfect girlfriend right from the start and the author actually pointing out that this behaviour is kinda selfish is nice to see.
Usually it's "haha mc got scared" and it's just packaged as a joke since a man feeling scared is obviously supposed to be a bit "hilarious and slightly pathetic", it's nice to have the author adding serious behavioral relationship pointers to the couples dynamic and interactions.

The author is currently taking a break from both of their series. Manga Penguin is set to come back in mid-June, while Tsuchinoko has no set date yet.

Yeah, Manpen (the mangaka’s other manga) just posted a hiatus notice on May 31st citing Tomimura-sensei needing a health break, so this one is probably on hiatus for the foreseeable future.
