I believe the goal here is to create a new timeline in which the Tokyo team will have a different outcome on the Oni mission due to the Edo team's interference. For example:

1. Due to Sutezo saving her before, Reika probably won't have 100 points and won't be able to revive Tae for Kurono;
2. Depending on how much the Edo team contributes to this mission, it is very likely that the Tokyo team will not get points to revive Tae, Kato, Nishi and Sakurai as happened in the original manga.
3. It's possible that Kurono will have to use his points to revive Tae or Kato, rather than choosing to be free if Reika and the Old Man don't have their 100 points to help him.

I'm curious to see how the story will unfold and how the Tokyo team will be affected by the cast of Edo.
