The only irony is your highly bias view of China and their people, look at Chinese history and how their interaction with the outside world, most of the time, they keep their business to themselves, and what does outsiders do when they get to China ? They exploited them, invaded them, destroy their country, steal their wealth, artifacts and massacre their people. The fact that China haven't nuke Japan to the ground for what they done in Nanking already show just how merciful they are. I am not Chinese, but if something like Nanking ever to happen to my country, and I was in a position of power, Japan would be a nuclear wasteland by now. People who have never face injustice can't possibly understand the feeling of those who do, if you do not seek retribution for what have been done to you, than it will happen again. China is the way they are because the world leave them no choice.
I do know Chinese history very well, being actually Chinese, and having the full Chinese upbringing, whose grandparents barely survived the Japanese occupation, and unlike all the culturally washed migrants who grew up in Western countries. So much for bias or racism. That is why I am well aware that for thousands of years, China has manipulated her neighbors either through forceful statecraft or special "peacekeeping" wars.
That being said, that is nothing new and nothing different from any major global power. You're deluded if you think China (or any other superpower) does this because of being burned by the pre-WW2 occupation or some other conflict. Citing that and Nanking in particular isn't wrong, but the way you zero in on them specifically hints to me that your knowledge of China is actually just made up of what you gleaned off the very limited and focused modern political commentary from all sides, and not any real appreciation of history.
Do you think a whole country is some kind of abused victim suffering from childhood trauma? Perhaps you do, if you speak in such immature terms like oh this country should nuke another now that they have a nuke and can take revenge. Perhaps your country's just as immature. Please don't compare it to the cunning, wisdom and far-sight of China and the Chinese people, which almost certainly is far older and wiser a country than yours, and who would never do something so petty and shortsighted. At least on a level of a polity, can't say the same for individuals unfortunately.
Ironic yes? That I'm praising them so much now? Except it's not. The current China may be doing much the same she always has, but generally speaking there is much less honor, values and religious respect. Even in ancient times, there were certain moral boundaries not crossed, even if it was just a commentary of how something may be 'necessary' versus something that is 'right' just because it can be made so, but in both cases they would do said thing anyway. This is a common commentary of many Chinese philosophers and rulers in times past, who were always wary of social degradation.
This is the only thing I'm talking about. The fact that many Chinese, particularly netizens, feel there are no boundaries and speak as immaturely as yourself. Nothing new for the social media age, but it presents itself differently in every country and is particularly worrying in China where the population is so big, which gives this 'noise' a lot of weight.
To all others who are going back and forth on whether its racism or not. Facts are facts. Ironically I have to call this out as a super western thing which some of you will likely label as racist or something, but really, letting labels and such paralyze your from commenting on how different peoples really are different is really effing stupid. Of course people are different. It's racist only when you don't have a reason and just make shit up. In my case, there are many Chinese who would praise these spies and the portrayal of China's ambitions and strategy in the manga. I never said all of Chinese people do (like me), and saying it's racist or whatever doesn't make it any less true. Reality doesn't conform to your little social constructs lol.
