If that were the case all the tactical response forces ranging from military to civilian would be filled with deranged people who derive pleasure from killing or broken shells. I'm not saying it
doesn't happen every so often but the vast majority don't derive pleasure from such actions, instead it should be pointed out that the pleasure most people feel at that moment would be from accomplishing the required task successfully and without any problems, saving lives, or stopping a perceived threat to society. If you want to see the difference between the two then like Kaarme said go take a look at Rory then look at a random soldier.

@sterven , never implied anything of the sort, neither said anything about it being good or bad or the amount of people ends in any of the options, and i gave plenty of them to choose from.

Back into topic, yeah, Kenzaki's unit and Rory had shown plenty of moments of liking what they do.

In Rory's case, her pleasure derives from her being an apostle of Emroy, she has no way to avoid it, save for drying Itami in bed, but the point that if she likes it or not and ou tolerance because it si Rory it is a differente topic

Rory cleaved a rider and his horse in two. Wtf. I wouldn't have expected so much power from such skinny arms.

As we all know, guns don't kill people. The cell death from caspace cascade as a result of the inability to sustain bodily functions due to a mortal wound caused by the penetration of the bullet fired from the gun.

Well, if you have killed as many as that unit, either you get into liking the killing or ending with PTSD, save if you had some screws loose from the beginning or some blind justification (justice, greater good, ...).
I must be reading it wrong then because if clearly states that by killing many you either get into killing or get PTSD, or that from the very get go you were some type of psycho/moral champion.

neither said anything about it being good or bad
I don't know what you mean about this since I didn't mention anything of the sort either at least not to you.

the amount of people ends in any of the options
If by this you mean this
If that were the case all the tactical response forces ranging from military to civilian would be filled with deranged people who derive pleasure from killing or broken shells.
then you must know that I was only applying logic to your statement, because if we go off of what you said at the beginning this would be true.

Back into topic, yeah, Kenzaki's unit and Rory had shown plenty of moments of liking what they do.
Come now surely you can see the difference between enjoyment in what you do vs enjoyment in taking lives. The only one I can say that takes pleasure in injuring/taking lives is the overly aggressive, big breasted, midget in the squad. (I forgot her name) She enjoys fighting, shooting, and generally fucking up her enemies. Then we look at the others for example in this chapter the soldier who called out the fact that he planted claymores on the side of the road was happy that his planning wasn't going to waste and had a purpose. The other soldiers started smiling after the explosions not because the imperial soldiers were killed but because they gave up and were going home.

In Rory's case, her pleasuer derives from her being an apostle of Emroy, she has no way to avoid it, save for drying Itami in bed.
True Rory does derive her pleasure from being an apostle of Emroy. This is because the souls of the deceased pass through her causing a aphrodisiac effect, in order to get more of this she slaughters evil doers/joins battlefields and so forth. So your wrong it isn't that she has no way to avoid it it is simply she has no intention of avoiding it.

But we also have seen that her regeneration is absurd, Rory got her leg cut more than once and the cut was regenerating as the sword was cutting it so it never got separated from the body, we also saw her fighting with spear all over her body and she got sprayed with shots from multiple automatic guns, with shots hitting her in the head at times, and all it did was amuse her (note that each of those shots to the head would have been the same as having half her head exploded out and that was happening multiple times in sucession).
I agree that a trap would be the best choice but given the situation right now I would say giving up is the best move for those that would have to fight Rory face on, unless numbers like fighting her one thousand vs Rory and even them I still think she would not fall.

The empire is hardly blameless in this whole conflict. Just a couple of chapters ago, their plan was to disguise as JSDF and wreak havoc on the countryside to turn the population against the JSDF. They're also not above using assassins. The only difference between the 2 factions are the technology and training. Given their continued aggression and past tactics, it would not be outside the realm of possibilities for them to entertain even more devious means of biological warfare like poisoning water supply or spreading diseases, etc. Against such an aggressive faction, the best way to fight them is to completely stomp them down and break their will to fight.

@mahtan Does all of that you mention comes from the novel? I do not remember Rory with any of the injuries you mention in the manga, or even the anime.

@sterven
Come now surely you can see the difference between enjoyment in what you do vs enjoyment in taking lives.

I was talking about the first all the time, in that they like shooting and killing (their job), but not the lose of lives itself (they are not murderers but more like assasins (job), save Rory maybe). In the way they act and others say about them looks like it is more than satisfaction about the job, and yeah, killing many affects anyone's mind, which is lessened if they have some shield, like morals or screws loose (which are mostly the same), but there are other options. Even killing one person, or any living being as long as it get recognized as it (not food, for example), affects anyone.

In Kuribayashi's case i think she is a fight nut, and would go into the category of one with screws loose, but that that she is not into killing but into the thrill of the fight or into violence itself.

About Rory and pleasure i was referring to what another guy wrote, but i forgot to separate things, and it is a completely different topic to like fighting/killing. But if you want to join in, about the pleasure, she joins battle in Italica because she can get rid of that extra energy from the souls that go through her body that way (hence why she assaulted Itami :D ). There is other reasons why she joins battles, like being Emroy's apostle, but that is a separate topic.

And here I am feeling shitty just knowing Tyuule could have been saved. Shame she's never going to get any peace, this is almost certainly that sort of crossroads.

I don't know what's more beautiful - That ass-perspective shot with the SMAW or that pincer claymore ambush. Damn, I love this series!

Am I the only one ragging that the emperor, who actually ordered the first attack on civilians, that considered his own soldiers disposable, and caused misery on lots of villages when retreating with scorched earth tactics; is now portrayed as a sympathetic character?
I hope he's judged like the scum he is, but it feels like this manga has another villain and the reader's don't have memory.

@licebmi - If he repents and tries to make up for it, that's not nothing. Remember, he was going by the values of his time and world, it's not like his world or his government ever signed onto the values and laws of the invading Japanese.

@licebmi He did not order attacks on civilians, at least on the comic, as he was hundreds of miles away, but he did not need to tell them to bring slaves ;) , and he did not use his soldiers as disposable but tricked the soldiers of other nations in a suicide attack so they would not take the opportunity to gang up on him. Only one that can be applied to him directly is the scorched earth. Despicable from our view, but reasonable for his own benefits.

Still, yeah a despicable politician on his high throne.
