That's the thing

One problem I have when I think about magic concept, why curse are mostly unblockable, and usually deadly to boot. Usually only way to it overpowered it with mana or dispel it. Why it the only one unblockable magic? that mean it's must've been a same type of magic as buff and blessing since both able to be received by anyone.

You know this can make play if you make magic base system with God blessing, such as elemental God or other.
1) Curses come home to roost, when you dig a grave, dig two. No matter what, the curse will consume the caster eventually.
2) Grudges. Curses are usually tied to a wrong doing of the cursed. Wronging the witch, opening a tomb, desecrating a temple, and so on. The bigger the crime and the grudge of the caster, the more potency the curse has.
3) Sacrifice. The caster has to sacrifice something to boost the curse.

Some off the top of my head explanations, why curses could be so powerful without having them be secret infiltrators

This should be the best explanation for curse. It's more of sentiment value of things that sacrificed.

But everyone have something valuable. Some short of aptitude needed, I feel like souls needed as the bind requirement here. Let's make it someone with strong souls can sacrifice something and create curse. It'll work since curse tied closely to karma

In case of grave, invidiual soul may be weak but when combined they could create curse. As sacrifice I think their existence and lingering to this world could work.

i got this idea for a while

an immortal thinking he is the most miserable person ever exist, living yet its all so quite, long, and lonely. But then he meet with musician who's lost his family and thought "if only my family were immortal too", he loath how all his family is having short lifespan and now his time slowly come. He curse the fate, he want to keep doing thing he very passionate about.

a one shot story worth i think. i imagining a banter of dialogue "You never know the loneliness i felt" "No....i do.... and much more, you are the one doesnt understand us. The feeling your death is knocking on door... never again to touch piano.... never again eat on that restaurant... swalloed by darkness". Finished by the immortal appreciating life ever more and grow closer to people, even knowing they would just die

i start to see the story!!

travelling musician were caught up in storm, then he found a place to wait out the storm to passed. it was a vampire girl's small cottage. She let him in, so long he doesnt bother her, an tense first meeting. The musician's destination is the small town right behind the hill. He then leave some gift to her for his unexpected visit thanks, it was a nice chicken shaped decoration. The morning then arrived break the silence.

he then leave her cottage, while at it she feel relieved he didnt do anything weird, after all a man bangging her door middle of the night surely anyone would rise a suspicion. After he left she check around her house to make sure nothing is stolen by the man, only to found the gift he left. She felt pretty heavy, but then a reminder of her old days start to creep up. She used to have human friend, she already passed away of old age. The passing of her friend is a huge blow for her, that day she decided to never interact and get attached to any short lived species.

After that she back doing her everyday routine, setting trap to catch rabbit, harvesting mushroom, tending garden, and making medicine. while she on the her way to deliver her medicine to the town she found the musician's town pass. She thought "ah... that poor soul, i dont want to involved with him too far but i guess ill do it since the destination is same"

outside the town's wall there she found him, standing like an undead pale and disprited now that he lost his pass he cant enter and make money out of his music. He doesnt have money to go to the next city, the previous city incident really cut his travelling money. You see few days prior, his carriage almost run over a passer by civilian and he has to pay retribution because of that.

she try to be nice and smile awkwardly to him and say "we meet again it seems.... haha... i have something for you" and she give him his pass. He so overjoy by this, start clean himself and make sure to look dignified and shake her hand "Thank you!! thank you so much, not only you kind enough to let me stay in your place last night but you also deliver my pass. Im truly indebted". she responded "dont worry about it, beside you give me a present. thank you for that too". They then start to introduce themself, the vampire girl reluctant at first but thought nothing hurt to learn his name. Then both of them enter the city, she tell him about this city, from the market place, the inn, and the goverment body.

from then the two bond over and this is where the immortality meet mortality story truly begin.

something I've been workshopping for years is this psuedo-hero story. It's set in some dystopian present where world war 3 happened in the seventies, caused by some weird alien. Anyway, the protagonists are a woman who I've usually envisioned as a psychologist/psychiatrist and the guy who's currently the sort of vigilante knight of the city, slowly taking down enemies one at a time, since the new form of law enforcement isn't working. The story's always complicated, but at heart it's about a young man coming to terms with the deaths of his parents and realizing why he does what he does, and the woman realizes that while her career had been a fake out up to this point, she finally has the opportunity to help people in some manner.
The reason why it's psuedo is because the vigilante protagonist isn't really... the conventional hero (that's said a lot, i know). He does not kill his opponents but, he's found fates worse than death for many, and his armor is more a delusion based on something his mother wrote before he died. There're other heroes of course in this version of earth, most operate under wraps, no longer in public eye, so his sudden explosive entry sparks a new era, one more violent than the last.
It's been a struggle, and they've both changed a LOT over the years. I almost considered cutting her at one point, but she's about the only normal force in his life which would push him to think he's worthy of a normal life. Chances are though, it'll never go anywhere, but I find it a worthy challenge to keep throwing ideas at until it sticks.
I spent almost a decade trying to get a sci-fi story going, and it's going well! Sure I'm adding some stuff and changing the first chapter a bit, but that's a good sign. Writing takes much longer than I could have ever expected, especially when you have brutally self-critical mind.

this new manga seems funny, and then I saw an update for Rosen Garten Saga
well, I stopped reading Rosen a long time ago, so I can't exactly remember about their penis power system,
but they combined got me thinking about a gag manga about breast size equates mana size or magic capability,
like there will be a lot of gags about push-up bras and padding like eminence of shadow,
we could have a gag about frieren showing off her true magic power when suddenly a pair of badonkers pop out
have those gags ever been on Rosen?

Man can't get much mana if it's based on your breasts, right?

That's the thing

Writing character that supposed to be smart but you dumb as hell
The way you write characters smarter than yourself is by looking up information or doing a deduction based on evidence yourself, then make the character do it faster than you.

Okay, my turn to share the idea of a novel I wasn't skilled enough to wrote. It's mostly based on genderswap gone wrong because fringe neuroscience theories being true. Also, it's very realistic and dead serious.

In this universe, the molecular theory of memory is valid : memories are not stored in connections between neurons, but in molecules inside the neurons. And it works so well a medical company used it for body transfer ! Take the body of someone in an encephalic death, connect his brain with the brain of an healthy patient, do a lots of hard chemical stuff, and you can transfer the memories of the living into the dead body. The story start after the introduction of the technology and follow a doctor, a FDA civil servant, and a trans body transfer patient consuming a lots of psychedelics.

The FDA obviously restrict it for medically usefull cases, the only one they find is sex transition. Take a male/female patient, transfer his/her/their memories in an opposite sex body and voilà ! The patient just need physical rehab, because the brain need to reconfigure the sensimotor functions to the new body, it's done in weeks or months.

Some people named copyists are against body transfer, because they think the original person is just killed and what's spared is just information (that's not wrong). Also, they commit terror attacks to the clinics doing the procedure. Think of the subhumans doing terrors attacks on abortion clinics to have an idea.

And to make everything worse, in this world, the embodied cognition is valid : the cognition is heavily influenced by your body. Consequence : every body transfer patient invariably develop psychosis and then severe dementia, due to incompatibily between the body and the transfered mind. But the FDA, some doctors, patients, and activist groups, downplay it : it's a result of past traumas combined with the stressfull procedure, it's some rare cases overplayed by transphobic people, ... A big political mess ensue. The FDA agent act as a whistleblower, fight his hierarchy, is fired, then gain mediatic exposure by some transphobic/copyists partisans he despise. BTW, I don't know what to do with him, beside exposition.

A patient of the doctor have an improving condition and is also consuming psychedelics, the doctor make the link. He postulate it's due to the dissociating properties of those drugs, something related to body memory, valid in this universe. Think of the quacks that have tried to push psychedelics as PTSD treatements recently to have an idea, but he's right on the paper. The medias charge him as a pseudo-scientific fraud. After seeing his patients heavily disabled or dying, broken by anger, helped by a copyist ally, he commit a gun terror attack against the FDA building : 20 death before being shot down.

I must admit the subtext of the story is despicable on nearly everything.

I didn't expect a body horror on this thread.

But I kind of expect it if it's coming from you, the science guy

Btw add more horror by body swapped with animal, imagine a maniac using this technology and placing mind of his victim on a pig and force it to lived. Wait it's memory graft only right? I'm not really understand but If it's work that way you can have the maniac torture a rat and graft it's memory to human

Make a fun character that grafted it's brain into a gadget or tool, like a biker who almost died but saved by this tech and want to fuse with his bike. Or again if it's work like said before, have the bike's AI have it's owner memory and having hard time to believe he died and he just an AI

Be wacky, it's the future :)
