I think anyone on this site's seen it a billion times. Having report reasons for racism and sexism specifically is fine, but a general hate speech tag would be better.
I can't think of any good reason why not to add something like that except maybe that it would clog up the inboxes of the moderators. That being said, if there's enough hate speech to clog the inboxes of the moderators, that'd just show that a report tag for hate speech is probably something that should've been added some time ago.
I may be biased of course. Feel free to discuss below.

Hate speech is an immensely broad term, that I think the "other" option is enough. I mean, hate speech can refer to anything from being prejudice against people with Borderline Personality Disorder (slang term: Crazy Bitch Syndrome), to discriminating against grown men who collect American Girl Dolls. But, I don't Know. Guess it wouldn't hurt.

I'll give it a +eh.

Imo it's good to have a difference, so mods can weigh the possible ban or whatever? Sure both are extremely bad things to say/do but sometimes people can take stuff outta context too?

Uh.. please no..... Hate speech is waaaay too broad. It's an umbrella term that basically covers everything.

Essentially saying it's hate speech is equivalent to saying you live in Asia when asked. Iran, Saudia Arabia, India, Russia, Malaysia and China are technically all in Asia in addition to all countries in between and surrounding them.... enjoy figuring out which Asia or how far south or North and what type of Political Asia I mean.

Yes, that level of broad dumb. A Mod does not need a bunch of generic "hate speech" reports
They need "what type of specific nasty slur, behavior or rule breaking occured.

Eh, I've reported lesser level hate speech before and the consensus I've gotten is the only thing the mods really agree about/care about in terms of terminology and words is the n-word. They'll moderate for that, but (inb4 I get reported for hate speech lol) things like "jap" "fag/faggot" "retard" etc seem to be considered subjective and situational, despite them also being considered slurs. (I have no real opinion on that moderation choice either, I neither support or oppose it, for the record.)

Granted, I'm not in the comments/forums all day, but I've never really seen blatant hate speech on the site that wasn't moderated.
Yeah, there's a lot of vague borderline hate speech on here, but that's the problem, those people know what they're doing and word their shit carefully to skirt the lines and avoid moderation. However, 9/10 you can just report them for general shit stirring/derailing at that point anyway. Also you can just block them and be done with it, which is the judgement I'm betting the mods will pass on this matter lol.

I'm pretty sure there are quite a few instances of that on MangaDex already...

@hellknightofdeath The specific report reasons we have directly correlate with the 5.1 section on our rules page or elsewhere on it since obviously people should only be reporting stuff that breaks some certain rule. https://mangadex.org/rules
If it doesn't fall into the rest, that's the whole purpose of "other" as per 5.1.4. Hate speech is too broad (it basically leaks into the other specific reasoning options) and people understand that it's a report reason even if we don't have an option named "Hate speech"

If your suggestion is that we change the rules to include hate speech specifically along with the rest, then you'd have to be way more specific in what you want added to the rules so it's not ambiguous

Whoa there pal, are you implying that people should be self responsible instead of bitching and crying to the nearest person of authority the moment they see something that they don't like? Oh no no no no. They are supposed to change your diaper on demand and waste their valuable time, instead of attending to actually important matters like adbots linking to CP sites or groups of terrorists using a comment thread in a random manga that no one cares about to discuss their plans. Somebody has said the N word somewhere. That must always take peak priority. Be careful with spouting wrong-think like that in the future my friend, or you are gonna land in a gulag.

I got here late, but yeah, "hate speech" has always been too broad and subjective of a term. And to enforce rules based on such a term would be a misstep.

All of the above concerning the obvious shitstorm of potential difficulties and drama that could come with the employment of a vague "hate speech" category.

"generic hate speech" is too broad of a term, it's basically how twitter and other social media get away with legal grey speak to remove things. I can imagine it would be abused here too.

For the record, we do actually look at the comment that got reported. The reason in the report is effectively irrelevant.

Thanks for the feedback! The site staff have given some very good feedback and I 100% agree with your reasons for disagreeing with me. As for everyone else, a bit of good feedback, and some fodder for my block list.

I was mostly bringing this up in the first place due to transphobia (violating 5.1.4) and anti-semitism (violating rule 5.1.3). I'm not trans or Jewish myself, but it's still kind of nauseating to see it, and blocking doesn't stop me from seeing it in the first place (usually). I looked over the rules, though, good to know it's officially not allowed!

When I was thinking of 'hate speech' as a report reason, I was thinking of it as a more specific version of the 'other' category, but if the report reason isn't actually that relevant, then I suppose that's kind of a waste of time, plus the 'other terminology' category in the rules kind of covers that anyway.
It might be worth mentioning that the reasons for the report aren't a huge factor on the report page itself, though, since that's not clear on the user's side of things.

Also, if it isn't already there, I was reviewing the rules and noticed there's a category for religious discrimination. I don't recall there being a category for that in the report tab, but I could be mistaken.
There is a report category for religious discrimination. Not one for other discrimination (5.1.4) but that probably falls under Other.

So yeah! That's about all I have to say on the matter. Thanks to all most of you who participated in this thread!
