Insert 'it's been 84 years' meme? That's a long way away. I wonder how long it would take for the manga to reach that point.

I mean, I'll take your word for it that this is one of the first LN to do it, but the planet of the apes jokes should key you in that it's been around for ages in other forms of media. I wouldn't be complaining if I hadn't already experienced this twist like half a dozen times in movies, games, tv etc. This story is one of the early originators of the concept, actually. It's just taken that long to be adapted to manga, and for the adaptation to get to this point in the story, too. LN started 2016, ended 2024, 20 volumes. Manga started in 2017 and is ongoing, and we're at manga volume 14 currently; equivalent to about the end of LN volume 6.
Sorta like Mushoku Tensei and how long it took with its manga; the WN started in late 2012, ended in 2015; the LN started 2014 and ended 2022. The manga also started in 2014, but only releases two volumes a year, and takes longer to tell the same amount of story because of the density of the LN and the difference in format without wanting to compromise the story itself unlike some adaptations; at volume 24 of the manga, we're only just done with the equivalent of the 12th LN volume and currently on the equivalent of LN volume 13... of 26. So, 12 years to get through 4 years of LN.
Considering the sheer volume of material out there, running into it only a half dozen times when your oldest example is either from 1968 or 2001 (depending on if you meant Tim Burton's remake or not), across all forms of media no less, should have made it self-evident to you how infrequent it actually is used as a concept.I mean, I'll take your word for it that this is one of the first LN to do it, but the planet of the apes jokes should key you in that it's been around for ages in other forms of media. There's already plenty of big bouncy ones. Ironically, his future waifu who is descended from a sea dragon is one such person. This is just adding a bit of variety to the mix, which I really appreciate.Flatness ceremony

Remember that dragons are technically androgynous and have no sex assigned until they form a rider pact, then they can become either sperm donors or baby makers. Maybe both will grow now they have riders? There's already plenty of big bouncy ones. Ironically, his future waifu who is descended from a sea dragon is one such person. Why making dragons genderless? Male dragons f*ck with female riders and vise versa.Remember that dragons are technically androgynous and have no sex assigned until they form a rider pact, then they can become either sperm donors or baby makers. Maybe both will grow now they have riders?
Because that's what they are. Dragons are neither male or female until they get a rider. Then they take on the opposite sex in order to make babies with their rider. Why making dragons genderless? Male dragons f*ck with female riders and vise versa.
