Pretty sure Kadomi would have done what she did to anyone. She was just waiting to catch someone stealing to go on a powertrip.
Sure, Gift was kind of an ass but all that shit he went through was overly disproportionate. Not to mention that the narrative actually points that he did deserve it as once they did seem to call it out, it was just an opportunity to shit on him further.

Kind of a big pretentious idiot plot when you get right down to it. Color pages and some of the painterly stuff was nice, but goddamn... "kill yourself because you borrowed a few blobs of paint from your shitty rich kid friend" what a note to go out on.
