Yeah, this is a pretty egregious example of adaptations skipping over content that connects one story beat to another. I guess if she shows up again, he didn't kill her. But if she doesn't, did she die? Did the author just forget about her like they often do with random characters? Did that part of the novel not get included too? It's a whole damn thing, man.
