@Cyrus Pretty much there were a bunch of students who were from the Yun Hai Sect who possibly took the chance to flee in time from when all the other Sects came in and destroyed it. So my guess masked guy was one of those individuals who escaped so hes placing his faith on the MC to get stronger and revive the Yin Hai Sect.
