Man, this definitely is not a bittersweet ending. Its 90% bitter. In the end, Aiko is only remembered in any meaningful way by Punpun and died a miserable death without achieving any of her dreams.
Punpun really wants to die (and be forgotten by everyone, as he says to Aiko in that dream sequence) but is cursed by Aikos last words (about remembering her on Tanabata) so he is forced to live. Live and take responsibility for his actions (as his uncle said) and keep carrying the burden of all he has done for the rest of his life. It’s a completely miserable and meaningless existence that he’s being forced into. Even the friend group and girlfriend he’s acquired (which would be a cute rag tag group of pals in any other manga) is just basically something thats caught him and wont let go. Damn, even the manga based on him that Sachi is making is going against his wish to completely disappear. The rest of this guys life is just a giant L.

Coming to the end of this work, I realize that it was one of the most important of my entire life. Inio Asano, thank you!

i guess he’s happy? also reality is apparently repeating itself. this ending kinda confused me.

i still love the fuck out of this manga, even if chapters 100-147 were basically torture to read with how sad it was.

this is hands down my favorite manga. i didn’t think anything could top tokyo ghoul, but this certainly did.

i’m glad i found out about this manga from a friend of mine of animelist, i probably would’ve never read it if it wasn’t for him.

i’ve spent so many late nights reading this (like i am rn) and i’m glad i did so. thank you so much Inio Asano for making this. i’ve never been able to relate to something so much before in my life.

10/10 manga, it absolutely hurt to read though.
lmao tokyo ghoul is not even good manga. There are tons of better mangas than that shite

Man. I told myself that I would never read this again but I wanted to write about it so bad I had to.
It's still as depressing as ever.

after reading and finishing this entire manga. I can say without a doubt that this manga is very perfect in personal reflection

I grew up being just like punpun very outgoing and kind. I eventually grew to be a shy kid and from there looking for a place in life and looking for meaning

This manga gave me “good vibrations” in how much I knew what he was going through all though be it wayyyy worse.

The ending is very bittersweet
