Excellent writing. I love how the story just keeps going and it doesn't stop to explain those small details, but you still have enough information to figure those things out. Beautiful writing!

i actually think the title as well as the word used in the manga is "Gelände", a German word that means "area" in the context of e.g. hiking etc, like when an area is rocky.
