I am no expert on martial arts, but you may want to look up 'clinching' in boxing.
This is a technique where during a boxing match, where both boxers seemingly start to hug each other until they get separated by a referee. It is used to throw the opponent of their rythm, regain energy, protect from attacks when cornered and to close in on a larger opponent and throw in gut punches.
These punches count in the score, but they must not hit in the back, i.e. no kidney/neck punches. Any frontal punches from that position are not very strong, because they make use of all that momentum.
A 200kg wrestler could probably just gouge anyones eyes out (GoT anyone?), or grab the neck and start twisting like they are opening a glass of jar.
But we have seen that the contestants in the tournament are all from different cultures with different martial art customs and rules. Those that don't win by martial prowess, win by playing a smarter game of war.
