Logistics is a big deal. It literally determines how or even if you can fight.
During WW2 in the North Africa campaign, Rommels forces were usually starving while their food rotted in port, cause the infrastructure to transport the supplies safely across 1000km of open terrain didn't really exist, and due to Allied air patrols, what could be transported had to be done at night.
The closest port that could service the Afrika Corps was the port of Tobruk and could handle 600 tons/ month... except the Afrika Corps needed 60,000 tons/ month in supplies.
