Nah, that's pretty normal over there. Like, it'd be one thing if the key was found on its own (just as liable to leave it there as they would be to take it to a police box), but if someone's nearby actively searching the ground for something, it's pretty standard fair in Japan to lend a hand. Even if they're a bit hesitant or nervous about it as was in my case.
