I would like to mention that more than half of mangadex's chapters are modified and probably originate from aggregator sites (low quality jpeg) . It would be nice if someone has archived the original releases and replace the existing files.

Unfortunately it is a support issue since I doubt anyone is bothered to check the reported chapters. For example Gangking c53 isn't removed despite being already reported. This have happened many times in the past and thousands of chapters at MD are modified or originate from aggregator's sites. To be honest MD staff should have already made a site announcement and a thread regarding the following things (when they started many chapters originated either from batoto or kissmanga/mangahere etc):

01. All active groups to gradually replace the chapters that weren't upload by team members
02. A megathread with a list of manga that have chapters that must be replaced. It's ineffective to report thousands of chapters individually. Fortunately there are users who have archived the original files

Of course this may be pointless since there is already an announcement mentioning that MD alters the original releases by removing metadata and color space info. A bad move in my opinion that made MD lose the "Reader with original & untouched chapters" for 10% storage & traffic gain.

The chapter you reported has already been removed.

There was an organised effort to upload missing chapters, it just wasn't posted publicly. Feel free to report any releases if you can find higher quality versions, but unfortunately a lot of the archived releases of MS chapters could only be found as aggregator rips.

And said announcement is talking about lossless compression. There's no visible difference afterwards, just a file size reduction, otherwise we wouldn't have done it.

That's why I mentioned that you must make a public announcement & a mega-thread regarding modified chapters instead talking about it privately. Most no-group-members & uploaders depend on madokami and batoto instead of trying to contact either group members or old school archivers. Since MD forum is neglected by most users it would be wiser to be created on reddit (r/manga) & 4chan. A simple notice on a pinned thread like the following:

In order to preserve the original archive of the fansub scene we would be really thankful if any user have archived and is willing to share with us the original and unmodified chapters of the following series. The chapters must originate by the group itself and not from any aggregator site. Only exception series marked as *** where any format/origin is appreciated

Title - chapters - group
Haikyuu - c185-377 by Mangastream
......
......

***Chinpui - v04c09-12 by Doko Demo Doa

ps. Regarding MS I had archived almost all series that didn't have the last three chapters rule.Unfortunately Haikyuu was one of them. Since "Reporting individual chapters->Waiting aproval (Gangking took two days) -> Replacing" is extremely time consuming, I wouldn't mind to share them with a staff member through MEGA

ps2

Any kind of alteration leads to modification of original files even if it's through lossless optimization (a backward process isn't possible like wav<->flac+cue+log)

If you've got the chapters, stick them in a MEGA link and I'll pass them along to the uploaders. The reason we didn't bother doing anything public is because we've got dozens of dedicated uploaders who've uploaded thousands of chapters each, and they *do* have their own archives and talk to old group members.

Removing unused information from a .png is entirely different to converting audio file format entirely. You can take an image, apply lossless optimisation, see the file size decrease, and then run it through a diffchecker and see that not a single pixel has changed.

Here's a freshly exported image from what I'm working on at the moment, exported as an 8-bit 64c .PNG from Photoshop. 412kb.

Here's the image after being run through pingo on the same settings used for the MD image archives. It's dropped down to 380kb, which is a tiny difference, but it's working off a pretty optimised image in the first place.

Here's a comparison of the two images, with differences highlighted in red, down to a single pixel.
