I don't really get these oneshot-esque manga.. They seem to mostly just be a vehicle for the author to get to a specific sakuga panel where they spill out some romance scenario that they imagined, and I mean, that is nice, but it's not exactly engaging to read no story, no nothing, just a simple scenario. Yet this kind of manga keeps popping up frequently, so I guess there must be an audience for it..? Idk man, as I said, I just don't get it. Reading this does nothing for me other than make me go "so where is the rest of it"

You seem to be entirely missing the point of these twitter/pixiv manga and judging them by the same standards you'd use for a serialisation or a tankobon.

In short, twitter manga are typically not intended as a final product, they're (like 90% of what you'll find on twitter) advertisement. Understand, advertisement for the mangaka.

For the mangaka's drawing, capacity to visually convey a story/context, capacity to follow a schedule, and capacity to reach, engage and connect with an audience. Twitter manga are a showcase, a live portfolio aimed at publishers, that the artist can point to and say to a prospective employer "See ? I made that ! And people loved it." They're also a very cheap and easy way for a mangaka to try out new techniques, ideas, concepts, and very quickly see what bites gets engagement.

That doesn't necessarily makes them lesser in quality (it's a showcase ! It should be of high quality). But since twitter views don't pay bills, they will almost systematically be lesser in quantity.

And then, the rise of crowdsourcing platforms mean that some people are actually managing to pay bills with twitter manga without needing an established publisher, but the likes of Yaki Tomato are the exception, not the rule.

You'll tell me that explanation's nice and shit but doesn't really explain why they're popular. Fair.

• Translators like these because : a) no publisher to sic DMCA requests at you. b) sometimes can even directly interact/work with the mangaka
• Some people don't care for 300 chapter slow burn and would rather read 300 one chapter stories
• A share of the twitter population lives there and most of them don't have the attention span for more than 4 pages at a time anyway.

Isn't the usual standard for translating a Kansai accent to make it a Southern US accent? Like "Y'all", "Ain't", "Howdy", "Fixing to", etc
