Screw the teacher as well, you see one of your students frozen in fear from the pressure and you ignore him?? Trope of Japanese teachers being completely worthless strikes again!
I always feel like Japanese teachers (in these stories at least) are very business-like. They come in, do their job to the letter and don't do much beyond that, unless they are sports related. Not every teacher can be like Yankumi or GTO.

I'm gonna be honest, I feel like all this would've hit better if there was any prior indication that our boy protag-kun came from a household where this kind of parenting felt logical. Like oh yeah, he's a normal quiet guy, three sisters, sometimes plays guitar, oh bee-tee-dubs, his mom was an overbearing perfectionist, one of his sisters is a musical prodigy, and he has severe trauma from not measuring up to this.

Others have already said it but the author clearly didn't have many thoughts for backstory and had to make drama happen, so the lack of lead up didn't work out. It's a classic story and can be done well, it's just... Too abrupt.

Difference between hearing and seeing your mate IRL have a breakdown over something they were repressing and seeing a story character have it happen in a show or something. The former you don't expect people to show signs to everyone around, in the latter you kinda need it for the story to flow right.

You really have to understand Kurose; he was just a young boy with an inferiority complex, consumed by the pressure to excel, so it was hard for him to decide whether to play or not given his nerves.
The way that unpleasant girl treated him—and the teacher's utter lack of tact—was truly awful. It’s a shame for him; hopefully, Haimiya lends him a hand and helps him overcome his fears 🤍🙌

Completely valid crashout from the girl to be honest. The thing is Kurose was too young to know how to take those comments and ended up with trauma.
Not so much valid as understandable from a little kid in her situation. She was looking forward to this performance so much even after she had her spot as pianist taken, and she was ok with that because the person who took her spot seemed to be genuinely talented and deserving of that position. The performance going well would've outweighed any frustrations she had with not getting to play piano like she wanted. Unfortunately... The performance did not go well. And for no good reason as far as she could tell. Kurose just didn't play. Performance bombed, and it would've been fine if her spot was never taken by the quiet kid.

wonder how haimiya will pull him out of this ditch PepeSip
My guess is that she'll ask him to imagine playing just for her when he's on stage (maybe asking him to actually play just for her first so he can draw on that later).

Still..... doesn't really make sense. Like the trauma itself does, just the way it connects to the light music club for Kurose is weird and doesn't really make sense.
The band leader said almost the exact same thing as Sato did before their performance: "I'm really glad we let you be our guitarist/pianist, Kurose."

Wake me up, when pointless and out of nowhere drama after drama ends.

And we went back to getting actual fun chapter like early chapters of this manga.

Honestly, even though I feel the drama was a little out of nowhere these past few chapters, I completely see where he is coming from. The insane pressure from his mom (honestly I can't tell if she told him he could quit because she gave up on him or because she saw how miserable it made him after the show, but if its the former she will need to do a lot to make up for it), the feeling panic and stage fright and the cruel words from his classmate, if I were him I'd hesitate to be on a stage again too, but I'm sure with Haimiya, he'll succeed and it will be awesome!
She just left after seeing him like that, so I guess she just doesn't care about him.

My two cents on this entire arc:
  • The setup for Haimiya and Kurose to have their 1 on 1 is fine, it does what it needs to do. Out of left field? Sure. Whether that is a good or bad setup? Up for debate.
  • What I want to keep on a lookout for in the next few chapters is how everything is going to be resolved. Personally what I would love to see is Haimiya help Kurose recognize that he cannot impose his past experience with the piano performance on his involvement with the light music club. That this time around Kurose is with a group of people who trust him, and from we've seen, are supportive of him. And that this is something that he needs to resolve with Hazuki, Aida, and Kurino, not Haimiya. (Because frankly speaking it does not seem like Haimiya doesn't really have much exposure to how much effort Kurose put into playing the guitar nor would she have the technical knowledge to genuinely tell him that he is actually talented playing guitar. So a "Haimiya saves the day by herself" kind of deal would feel off for me.). Expressing sympathy for past trauma, helping him realize that he won't solve anything by running away (and perhaps doing more harm), helping him find the courage to reach out to the people who will actually resolve this conflict.
Good characters fix things by themselves, Great characters realize when to take a step back and support others in the right direction.

P.S. If they throw in a line of Haimiya being like "If the world is against Kurose, then I am against the world" that would be like the same semi-sarcastic but still genuinely expressing your support to a friend (well a "friend that I definitely don't see being described a certain way to easily convey a deeper meaningful relationship trust me." in this case) that I would totally use lol.

P.P.S. Forgot to say thankies for the TL

Also, that's one hell of trauma dump bro and to your crush. Sheesh
Bruh i hate the modern therapy language. Its not a fucking trauma dump. She asked him whats wrong he didn't spring this on her out of nowhere. And telling people who are actively interested about your problems isn't "dumping" its human emotional connection. Therapy speak is so fucking toxic, especially when people have no clue what it means and use it an inflationary amount. Stop being insecure about normal human interactions and find someone you can actually talk to then you won't have to be scared of the bullshit some bird-hand tiktok woman is yapping about.
