You're right that I should be more specific. My point was never that the condition is fake. I'm acknowledging that it's real. But being based on real symptoms and being properly researched aren't necessarily the same thing. Can you please clarify your initial point where you said the author should have researched properly? What research is lacking? I can only interpret it as an implication that the author pulled some bullshit out of their ass, but if it's real then it's clearly not bullshit.
Japan will make manga about anything. Doesn't mean their suicide rate is low or that hikikomori don't exist. And ironically, there's a manga about therapy and mental illness/health
Thank you, that does clear things up a bit for me. The thing is though, when talking about mental health, the symptoms are the disease. People don't really fit neatly into their diagnoses, and almost all instances come with comorbidities that make them unique. So describing the symptom that she can't "recharge her battery" as explained in layman's terms, combined with the fact that she can be or seem completely fine one day and the next she's withdrawn from school without even telling her friends is no less informative than saying she has depression. You're right that I should be more specific. My point was never that the condition is fake. I'm acknowledging that it's real. But being based on real symptoms and being properly researched aren't necessarily the same thing.
The author could have given us a specific condition instead of leaving it vague. There are several possibilities that fit the symptoms, and choosing one would mean committing to how it affects the character and how it develops throughout the story. The author chose not to commit. That's what I meant by a lack of research, not that the symptoms themselves are made up.
If the ambiguity were actually explored, such as the character struggling to get a diagnosis or doctors being unable to determine what's wrong with her, I'd have no complaint. That would be a deliberate portrayal of how difficult these conditions can be to diagnose. But the story doesn't seem interested in exploring that uncertainty. It just introduces this unnamed condition and uses it to create drama.
That's my issue. Leaving the condition unnamed gives the author the flexibility to use it however the plot requires without having to meaningfully explore what the character is actually going through. To me, that feels more like a plot device than a well-developed condition. I'm not denying that the symptoms are real. I'm criticizing how they're being used in the story.
If a later chapter names it and explores it, I'll happily revise my opinion, but judging what's on the page so far, the condition is functioning as a plot device, not a portrayal.
"It turns out Mio has a serious condition... its called C O M A S T R A T S."I frankly don’t know what to say. This must be one of the most contrived, random and downright stupid ways to create drama I’ve seen in a romcom. It’s honestly baffling and laughable.
Author should’ve sticked with this being a fluff manga like it was in the first couple of chapters. It was clear from as early as Koyuki’s introduction that they don’t know how to create a believable drama storyline.
Let’s just hope the payoff when they finally meet again is worth it. But for now, I’m gonna keep thinking it’s stupid.
He needs someone to Kabedon his ass into a locker actuallyFeels like he's been needing someone to tell him to act a lot lately.
Yeah, I always felt something was off with her and it's not just "cool scary gap moe", good to see what it isAre yall fucking retarded? It was obv she had some sort of depression by the way she acts. This happens to a lot of people and is a very reasonable plotline. This isnt some random manufactured drama. Her being unable to come to school, needing to be alone in the nurses 0ffice, unhappy and cold demeanor, and spike of happiness before disappearing are ALL signs of depression that have been cultivated from the story’s beginning. The assumptions you all had at the end of last chapter were so boneheaded I was beginning to wonder if you were even real people or just an amalgamation of moronic internet comments turned sentient
Don't have to remind me rightthe direction wasnt your lie in april
