I think currently, the story is gonna focus on Ippo's work as a teacher. Btw, this is just all my own theory and speculation, but i think all the current events are mainly focused on making Ippo a better Second and coach, rather than on returning him to the ring. The only fight which I imagine can do that, is Sendo vs Ricardo. Except that, Miyata moving to an upper weight class, and Ippo witnessing him butcher everyone there, could also perhaps motivate him (or maybe that wont happen). For a while though, I dont expect Ippo to have any thoughts about re-entering the ring at all, not until the Sendo Fight.

Kumi will break up with him to care for her brother vegetable so, he won't have Kumi bringing him down and holding him back anymore. None of the Ippo Generation having a world title, Sendo to lose next, will spur Ippo on to take the world title so that the Ippo generation has at least one winner.

well damn. Mashiba was one of the few boxers left that Morikawa didn't fuck up. So I guess now it's just the countdown until Takamura gets some career ending injury. Guy's making it extremely difficult to enjoy this manga.

What a chapter. That picture of Kumi in the hallway and that panel about Kumi not being able to separate Ippo from boxing were just fantastic.

I guess that Kumi will break up with Ippo over this. We'll just have to thank Mashiba for his sacrifice. I do believe we were introduced to a potential rebound girlfriend for him.

On the other hand, Ippo is getting to see up close and personal a dark side of boxing - not just what could happen to him but what he can do to others - and he's now wondering if he can even handle being a second and not just throw the towel immediately whenever there's any damage.

So he'll either quit and the story will end in a whimper (thanks to Mashiba the grim reaper), or he actually gets some resolve to aim for victory for the boxers he's seconding or even for himself. Things are definitely going to be even more depressing though.

I honestly feel it would've been for the best if Kumi breaks up with him. Being in a relationship means respecting each others hobbies and not taking them away from it.

So. I really dislike this, I see no reason for this type of ending for Mashiba. It feels so... gratuitous. Like Morikawa wanted to show us someone having a bad end.

No he won't die, but he will retire for sure. I'm being 100% honest here when I hope that Kumi leaves the manga as a character. What role did she even have until now, really? Stopping Ippo from returning to the ring?

I really can't see her encouraging him to get back into the ring after this. I just can't see what other possibility there is apart from them breaking off at this point....
