I'm honestly really proud of Shirasawa. His being shy about confessing is reasonable since he is just a teenager, but he didn't hesitate at all to help her. He is a much better man than most romance manga protagonists. He was worried about 'showing her his lame side', but I think it meant a lot to Kaho that he did that for her.
If you noticed in 62.1, she was glancing at him the entire time to see his reaction when she mentioned being confessed to. It was already obvious before, but it's clear to the readers that she is in love with him too.

I swear the author knows damn well what they're doing! I get anxiety every chapter release from the constant NTR threat..

I don't think we need to worry. I think just the fact that he made a point to tell everyone that his NTR doujin wasn't canon signifies that he wants to keep that stuff out of the main story.

That along with the date rape with sensei makes me believe that half the side plots on this manga are not canon anyway

I'm worried that the author is waiting until he writes Honjou or her sister being assertive with Shirawasa trying to engage in an intimate act and no matter what it is he'll freak out due to the date rape. Which if it's Honjou pushes her back into her shell or sets up another NTR scare.
