Sup guys, recently, Yanmaga opened a YouTube channel. They’ve been posting interviews with authors, mostly about their daily lives rather than the stories or characters. This week, they interviewed the author of this manga. The video might be region-locked, but here it is:
The video has some interesting insights, like how the author works with 4-5 assistants remotely per chapter and takes about 2-3 hours to draw a page. What really caught my attention, though, was her bookshelf. It's not very big, but it has some pretty unique titles. Here are a few pictures:
This image shows novels taken off the bookshelf. They’re erotic novels the author is reading, I think the author said she likes stories where women take an active role (YouTube subtitles kinda suck).
In this image, you can see that the top of the bookshelf is censored. I'm not sure if it's because the author didn't want to show it or if it’s explicit content.
In this image, there's a book that caught the interviewer's attention: 検案ハンドブック (Autopsy Handbook). The book includes cases of actual corpses that were autopsied. The author mentioned she has it because she might need to draw a corpse at some point.
In this image, under the favorite books section, there's another book that caught the interviewer's attention: 搾精病棟~性格最悪のナースしかいない病院で射精管理生活~ (Semen Extraction Ward: Ejaculation Management Life in a Hospital with Only the Worst Nurses). Well... if you know, you know.
In this image, in the favorite books section, there’s another book that caught the interviewer's attention: 官能小説用語表現辞典 (Erotic Novel Terminology and Expression Dictionary). According to the description I found, the book was:
"Written by a leading authority on erotic fiction, this book compiles over 2,300 unique terms and expressions extracted from more than 600 works. These are categorized into broad groups such as female and male genitalia, voice, onomatopoeia, and expressions of climax added in paperback editions. Specifically, the terms for female and male genitalia are meticulously organized by individual parts.
Anyone who has read even a little bit of erotic fiction will know that the descriptions of sexual acts are often excessively detailed and richly expressive. The language used is so abundant it could be described as a form of verbal and numerical violence, with psychological nuances between men and women or the many facets of sexuality expressed in countless ways."
In this image, in the favorite books section, we have 最強伝説 黒沢 (The Legend of the Strongest Man Kurosawa). It’s available here on MangaDex.
There are many more books, but it would take too much time to search for them one by one.
It would be interesting if, since Yanmaga is a magazine, they also released an article alongside the videos. Anyway, that's all.
