It doesn't fit because Kanda has always been a girl in all respects, but I do get Big Trans Vibes from her introspection while Ookuma talks with parents - I remember having very similar fears when I came out as trans. Though I was more worried about my family than my (non-existent) romantic status, a lot of these fears of being seen as a liar or somehow putting those around me in a (in my case familial) relationship they didn't ask for were ones that cropped up there too.

Correcting a misunderstood gender is a bitch even if you've got the body to 'prove' it, as this manga shows.

Also that's one way to fix a perceived lack of affection in your relationship.
