@Quercus It's not clear that Kobayashi spends any time observing how real human beings interact with each other if this arc and all of "Okusama wa Joshikousei" is any indicator. For sure, it's probably just a contrived plot point to move the MC out of the "committed couple" territory he was starting to go in and back to the "love-triangle" with Hagiwara again. It's the worst kind of manipulation that we've come to expect from the mangaka.

*sigh* ,,, we ALL saw it coming. The author pulled a way out of his ass for the relationship to end ... and it sure stinks. The contrived love-triangle (out of the blue on Hagiwara's part) which could have been resolved with Hamaji actually cheating on his girlfriend with his original crush was avoided. However, what was left in its place was the worse choice. Of course, now Hagiwara will somehow start a relationship with him and Hayami may want back in only to be crushed.
