@karolyn Probably they only value the skill, so she would only gain value if she could do the divine protection, before that they don't care that much as they don't want to 'invest' at a risky child.

But to be honest the plot is quite dumb, they are wealthy family, even if MC can't do this fancy stuff it doesn't mean that she is worthless. Just arrange marriage and she would be quite valuable or just hide her like children with a deficiency from a wealthy family. Such level of mistreatment wouldn't be good as people still see her and it could start rumors and lover the family prestige.

@SaltyNori @karolyn That's the thing, they never cared to start with. They had never celebrated or even gone beyond feeding and clothing her to begin with, which the protagonist makes note of. The party was a way to publicly give a reason for effectively disowning her. She probably would have been completely disowned had she not shown such unnatural skill with the needle. In fact, it's obvious they are teaching the other daughter, or at least instructing her in the existence of the skill and how to learn it. Why is still a mystery, but they made an active choice to cut her off in a way that would have looked... legitimate is not the right word... Logical?

@icarushector It's not entirely clear since we can't see the actual color of their hair, but she doesn't share the same hair as either parent like her sister seems to, so if we assume that her father is at least her actual father then it's likely that she was born from another woman, either a previous wife that died during childbirth or out of wedlock. Alternatively, she was adopted and her "father" is actually not her father but still blood related, perhaps an uncle or distant cousin. This seems more likely, as the father went out of his way to mention how their "blood relatives can do it without being taught," thus suggesting that the Nylle family has several branches. It also seems to hint at the possibility that neither he nor his wife can do it, and that he is depending on "his" children in being able to do it to keep his status and wealth. Another, more sinister, possibility is that she was kidnapped at birth by her blood relatives from her true parents under the guise that her current "father" was doing it for her own good.

Ultimately, it's hard to say what's actually going on at this point as we only have her extremely limited perspective and it's still only chapter one. All we know is she seemingly can't create the Divine Protection Embroidery(which, according to the synopsis of this story, clearly isn't the case) while her sister can, her family is abusive as all hell, and she can see and do things that from what she understands no one else can see or do. Once chapter two comes by and this new "employer" takes her away from this abusive household, we'll most likely get more information.

Ah it never hurts less seeing these protagonists with abusive families.

I hope divine retribution is on itd way to all these assholes.

@Svelandria I totally agree with your theory, and I just want to add a plus. I think she can made the divine embriodery, but they said, she can't. In this (twisted) way, they can force her to endlessly make clothes with divine protection for her food, (without her knowing) while they can enjoy her works fruits.

The villainy in this chapter is overdone. There's just no rhyme or reason to it. Even if you say the father is prideful, there's really no reasons given—not even excuses—for why everyone else (the maids, her sister) suddenly becomes a sadist.

Well, maybe it'll be fleshed out later, or maybe it's just something the authour thought was necessary for the story but didn't want to actually be too convincing about because, to be fair, doing so would come out even darker. Still.

@Sep10trion: If so, that's a bit disappointing. I actually don't want her to get revenge at all. I want her to move on, leave them behind, and be healthy and happy.

Seems like forced villain, the author not give us any reason why her family is so cruel to her. Even tywin's willing to make a war for his dwarf son, familal blood and honor is everything to noble.

ehhh the villians feel a bit to comically evil. like they dont have any single trait or character besides being the evil and abusive family. at least give them some form of reasoning behind their shitty treatment. At this point its just shitty treatment for the sake of being shitty and for her to fall when someone shows her basic human kindness.

Also there is literally NO reason for this to be an iseikai . This story would be literally 10x better - the abuse from her family would actually mean something considering how much of our personalities is affected by our childhood, meaning the healing process and her interactions with human kindness would be much more impactful and tearjerking.
But if you know this aint her first rodeo it ends up her reason for being able to endure the abuse is not due to any of her individual strength of character, but rather her experience from her past life helping her cope through it, completely invalidates her character.

Yes I understand that you need caricatures as villains to progress the first chapter into the ream meat of this story. But a rushed beginning with lazy characters, a good story, does not make. Yes, I know you are trying to make us pity the main character, but to use caricatures of villainous nobles? Also a sister that starts to hate her? Even if she is corroded by the family, I don't think she would scorn her sister that much, especially since it seemed like they had such a decent relationship for 10+ years.
There's exaggeration, but then there's too much exaggeration.
And lets see if being reincarnated even matters in this story.

You will be surprised how quickly kids turn when they are immitating their parents at an early age, I guess most of the readers are are lucky and haven't exprienced that. Children are not innocent, they copy- considering that she observed how her parents and even staff acted she immitated what she saw to avod the same fate at first and then it became a habit.

I suspect she is an illigitamate child in the first place as the maids said "we don't really need to care about her" and she had shabier clothes than her sister in the first place
I hope there will be flash backs to clarify
Edit: yeah, looking at the first several pages feels like half the bakstory is missing:
[ul]Why is she in such a bad room as a baby?
Why are her clothes so basic compared to her sister's (Before the birthday)? Less layes, detail, not as colorful, does not fit her well- all of wich is important as it shows off family wealth.
Why does she not have toys but her sister does?
Why does she not look like them? (I still suspect illegitimate or even adopted due to circumstances, she looks too diffrent- hair, face, eyes, colour... EVERYTHING)[/ul]

I'm only on the intro page, but the part about doing needlework as a hobby, then forgets to eat or sleep made me wonder if it could still be classified as a hobby. Then I think about myself when I'm binging manga. Lol.
