Nah, mate, the fun is in deliberately misinterpreting the expressions. Like, what are they really thinking? For example, with that last panel (and given the rather angry look that the guard has shown in every other image) it looks like he's gotten sick of the MC's obvious lies. He's not opening the door to take him to the guild, but locking it so that no one interrupts the brutal abuse that's about to happen.

series is really generic but has really good character writing. They act how you would expect them. Most people are rational, make good choices, and think about others. The "normal" manga tropes are reserved for the literal children or dumbasses.

I'm guessing "Evil Eye Crystal" is supposed to be "Magic Detecting Crystal", since "evil" and "magic" have the same root kanji.
