NGL, Gilik really needs to be beat until he gets that anger out of his system. I'm all for the school of hard knocks, but even with healing available you dont beat newbies till you brake bones. Not only is it counter productive, the only thing it teaches is pain and frustration.
and can end with him getting killed or fired in the long run if he keeps it up. because sooner or later he WILL fuck up big time.

Don't compare the manga to the WN. A web novel is how the writer envisions the story. A WN doesn't care much about "selling rules" and goes freely.
When we talk about adaptations, what we have to consider is the LN.

I'll have to look around for the LN and see if it's been botched as the manga.

Also, I'm now somewhat aware that "will you become my subordinate?" is the japanese unchad version of "ARISE"....don't think I'll be able to not see it anymore
I'm reading the WN on syosetu using translation tools (mostly google translate, sometimes DeepL)... so I'm not sure how accurate this is...

From the conversation Kent has with the first necromancer he defeats in the WN, using "ARISE" is basically what the other necromancers do. It's not a request. It's a command. As a result, none of their undead have a mind of their own. They're simply corpses being forced to move by the will of the necromancer.

Kent on the other hand, requests they join his family/clan willingly. They can feel that he has respect for the dead, and instead of getting a simple moving corpse, their spirit stays in/rejoins the body and thus they can truly be treated as subordinates who willingly serve theit master rather than unthinking tools.

Yeah, it's like that for most necromancers, but I was referencing to the "true" ARISE and the shadow army that comes from it :smugchisato:

Kent's ability to do whatever he imagines with magic, works basically the same way that demons cast spells. Hence, the title Kent's given by Rosenburg, Demon King, is more accurate than his title in Lanshelt (Demonologist). But Kent eventually also learns an 'enslavement' spell he uses on a monsterfied adventurer in Bekkenheim to track down his killer. That adventurer retains his personality, but feels pain when disobeying Kent. He basically requests to fight to the death to escape this situation.

And yeah, Kent's demons can do as they please, such as Reinhardt preventing Kent from killing Camilla earlier.

what exactly was the point they were trying to make with this match? It's kinda lost on me. Even if part of it is a grudge, since they have access to high level healing magic, they should be doing tougher training because, yeah, monsters aren't going to go easy on them.

That cat nee-san still super kawaii. If Yagi hadn't been injured, he would probably be flirting with her right there.

I thought they arrange a fake attack with the wolf pack on the next group of schoolmates, so then they could rescue them.

Thanks the translation!
