The smart thing to do was to wait for the live combat training, because it left students lightly guarded, making the final rescue easier by reducing the number of hostages. After this second rescue, it's clear they wouldn't send out more any time soon (because unlike the first expedition, the second was actually meant to return). Whittling down Camilla psychologically was also important for the negotiations after.

Also, in the original version, Kent only had 3 familiars until the second rescue, where soon after he had 33 (3 skeletons, 5 lizardmen, and 25 kobolds he massacred and raised right after). He needed more hands for rescue to be viable against more than 100 knights.

Can we move to princess' correnction already? The classmates constantly nagging about their own fuck ups is dragging any moment this manga had before this arc.
The worst part is the supposed hero being the top nagger about the hardships he had to overcome when in fact he was given VIP treatment, complete with a hot maid to seggs every day.

I think this has been a better part of the series. I found him watching girls bathe or glasses kid nag about harem antics while all the stuff in the background was going on to be frustrating. Seeing the kids be forced to reckon with their reality and face the consequences of either their own actions or the actions that brought them into the world is way more interesting to me than that or even a revenge plot against the princess.

That's true generally. Next time, we should be seeing the authorities in Volzart playing the role of counseling the students, who are generally spoiled. But Takayama was spoiled to a higher degree, and it was inevitable that he'd have gotten in some kind of trouble; he's lucky not to have gotten himself killed. Keeping him under control is a struggle.
