So iirc they actually left the temple normally then stumbled upon a giant wall beyond which was the Witch's zone. They messed up though and killed a flying screamer which triggered the stampede.

I also think this is where the author switched back to his classmates to give coverage on their activities in the Golden Zone.

Looks like they decided to skip over the classmates for now. They're pretty important to the plot though so we're going to have to spend a lot of time with them at some point.
