It's worse than that, even in real life cave can be death traps. Twists, turns, narrow crevasses, sudden drop offs, etc and all of it in pitch blackness. Getting lost in a cave and starving is a pretty rough way to die. Media never treat caves with the gravity they deserve.

But isnt there a hobby where they climb thru a deep cave? i guess those caves are already deemed explorable or climbable.

The ones that hobbyists go into for exploration and spelunking have been pretty well mapped so rescue teams can (if they're lucky) find them and assist them if something goes wrong, also the kind of people that do that sort of thing are going to know the dangers going in. Even the more experienced spelunkers will hire a guide if it's a cave they're not familiar with yet.

Reading through these comments, and nobody noticed that the pronouns have been screwy for the last couple chapters, like the Dragon didn't mean to say "I Will wait to see if I make it back across the forest" and that Dwarf Chief is clearly not a human.
