Now i understood why Mo's ghost "friend" scorned the way they were administering the test, in the eyes of a person that has the "age of plentiful" a test that seems so easygoing sure would be ridiculous, but with the hints the author has given us i ask... who fault is that they cant just go gung ho anymore?

@alacaelum

Their own, they went out to kill the guy and it cost them dearly.

More likely than not that they were jealous of his prowess, almost positive that they fabricated the whole 'Demonic Dao' nonsense.

It seems like the incident reduced a lot of their overall fighting power & with so much talent reduced, they had less personnel & experts who can find & train the next generation. This is probably why the mc was brought in, to help bolster numbers.

The spirit inside the cat is he the previous sect member who killed off the other members of the sect? Seems like he did pick up something that will both help and might implicated him.

@Winzent I used to read some wuxia novels and from what I understand sect leaders/masters and sect lords/patriarchs are different. The terms got interchanged quite a bit in this chapter so I'll try to explain their differences.

In this novel the sect leader/master (I think he was even called ancestor at some point?) is Elder Jiang Wukong who brought in the MC. They're usually the ones who manage the sect's disciples, resources, relations, etc. kinda similar to the president of a nation. They're the "public face" of a sect and have high cultivation levels, but not aren't necessarily the strongest in the sect.

Mo Zun on the other hand seems to be the sect lord/patriarch, who holds the highest position in the sect. Patriarchs are usually founders of a sect, disciples of previous patriarchs, or disciples who have led a sect to greatness. They typically hold the highest cultivation(at least until the MC surpasses them or they die off) in the sect, and lead the sect from the shadows and rarely interfere with the sect's operation.

@Winzent Usually in these stories the sects are managed by a First Elder (or something similar), while the truly powerful leader(s) of the sect are in secluded cultivation.
It should be that the one Mo Lianjian calls "grandfather" is Mo Zun (who is the true sect master behind the scenes), while Elder Jiang Wukong manages the sect on a daily basis.

It gets kind of confusing since at first glance you'd think Jiang Wukong is the sect leader, while he also looks more like a grandfather than Mo Zun who seems quite young.
