He's depicted as very sus, but I don't find it to agree with what we've seen of him. It all seems aimed to make us believe he's less than noble, but there are details that say he is a good guy. In particular Pride's trust in him, but also his position as a love interest for Tiara.

And she's got a better idea.

Can always use the precognition as an excuse for knowing stuff.

That is how you build a relationship. Start with trusting each other. If you are engaged, contrary to what fiction usually claims, love doesn't have to come first. If you're a good match, it will come eventually.

of course this story here will go differently with pride instigating genuine affection in her fiance, not following the historical pattern for noble marriages.

I don't think lack of genuine affection was the pattern for those marriages. Historically, marrying out of love was rare, and not just for nobility. However, people still fell in love, quite often after they got married. Unlike the modern idea where you fall in love and get together, historically you got together and built your love from there. A lot of people attribute the lack of that idea of building relationships to the increased divorce rates in modern times. Not the only reason, of course, but a contributing factor.
