@Akumetsu83

What the f are you talking about ?
HOTD was very popular, sold a lot in japan and even got a anime.

It was only cancelled because of author health, then death.

Now, we have a bad copy of this manga like Infection with already 15 tomes.

Rest in piece Daisuke Satō. Death from coronary artery disease. He brought me so much joy from my first manga and anime I was invested in. Fucking hell I miss him.

There is a possible way the series can finally get the conclusion it has long been waiting for, unfortunately this might not be the best way, but at least it can get a proper end. Reboot the series with a new author.

It's impossible to reboot it, though. The authors are Sato brothers. The brother who wrote the script is dead, and the other one (illustrator) confirmed that this manga is dead too.
You can only reboot something with a completed source. Sadly, the author will never finish this one.
RIP Daisuke.

@vodkavodka That's why I said "reboot it with NEW authors". And tell me, would you rather the series finally get an ending, or would you prefer this series remain unfinished for good?

Yeah, as I said, you can reboot only something with a completed source. Like, when the novel gets a manga adaptation. It's not a rare sight when the artist has problems, and whole manga gets a reboot.
But Sato brothers have no completed script.
If rebooted, it will be a completely new story and a new artist. So what's a point?
I can't image HOTD without Shouji's art. Besides, HOTD's story is rather generic. Because it's survival, so it's better to start something new. Sadly, looks like no one understands how to make a good manga about zombies these days, so I'd rather let HOTD rest in peace than to watch it ruined someday.
HOTD was born by Sato brothers and will die together with them.

Chapter 30

@TheDevilsApprentice
I'm honestly fine with an 'open' ending. Let's say 'they arrived at the school, saved by the JSDF, some of their families managed to be saved but some is still missing, and all of them walking towards the sun while saying they will continue searching for other fammily members.

@vodkavodka True to that. But a couple of OVAs with an anime only "end" could be nice. Just as a farewell to the author and openly telling that is just a very expensive fanfiction.

Anime was epic. Pity the series got cancelled due to "sensitive" period of Fukushima, then author's health issues, and nowit turns out he's dead... Wtf, why do we get tens of series with tens of volumes of BS, while good works end up buried.

If I remember correctly, the author stopped this series in 2011 right after the earthquake in Fukushima.

I remember reading a statement from the author years ago about how he was not going to continue work on this series because of the massive tragedy that struck Japan. Said something along the lines of "I don't have it in me to continue to write about a disaster when one just happened" or something like that. I can't find the source because it was so long ago.

Now this is just speculation but Ch 30, which was put out 2 years later, was most likely already written and probably partially layed out already when he decided to drop it. I say this because he did write other stuff after this series, so it really seems like just a matter of not having it in him to continue this series.

And although I'd love to read more of it, I feel it'd be best if others respect the authors feelings and didn't continue or reboot it. I mean, the other people who worked on it already shot the idea down as politely as they could.

sigh i wish his brother would finish the manga. im sure he has an idea of how this story was supposed to play out considering he did the art. why did he stop this for a shit story like triage x. this is still my #1 favorite manga but i dont think ill ever reread it just to be disappointed again.
