I'm going to assume a lot of you were born PERFECT so as to criticize Hozue with as much fervor given that both Yuuko and Koharu weren't much better in their own ways on top of the cast being you know...dumb HS Freshmen kids who don't have the foggiest idea of "How do I person?" and naturally lean to all kinds of dumb shit that might not be the best coping methods.

Mate, its a piece of fiction.

We're supposed to identify that what she's doing is stupid and judge her for it.

She is literally a device created for the sole purpose of pushing a story forward. She's not a real person where her behavior is a product of hormones and upbringing.

It is perfectly fine for folks to hate on FICTIONAL characters for whatever reason. Stop projecting.

dawg that is why people criticize her like DAMN
what you mean you'll make your friends as your opps when she just give you A PEN with your favorite character on it ( i mean they are girls so i don't really know for this part) and Koharu got "friends" .
that just envy bru

Bitch cared more about the motif of a pen than her friendship.

MC knew that she liked the character so much so MC bought her a spare one. Maybe because a pen doesn't last forever.

Bitch is too dumb to consider the alternative.
Holy shit guys she was a middle schooler who was bullied and going through it when she came to thag conclusion. Koharu did nothing wrong and did nothing to deserve the treatment, but I’m not gonna begrudge a 12 year old for not having the acumen to navigate bullying and social ostracization.

Ironically this is something Koharu clearly recognizes despite her own social shortcomings and that’s why she’s more accomodating but then you read these comments and jeez.

I guess this is the main problem of the social dynamics of everyone being MC's harem.
They don't really have incentive to interact with the other member that is not MC.

I guess Hozue kinda got a pass for not talking because she got trauma and all, but the mob girl also doesn't talk to Hozue at all. It feels so much more like friend-stealing rather than circle-expansion, you know?
This is also the case with Izumi and Yuuko at the start, but the main difference is that I believe they get over it after a lot of hanging out together.
Hozue never got the chance for that before lashing out. Though that's also partially her own fault for not reaching out, but still y'know, trauma and all.

Also, the absence of the two lackeys means that this isn't the event that pushed MC to deep end, so I wonder how Hozue even managed to get out of this mess and pushed away MC even harder.

I appreciate how this chapter shows that Koharu has always had it in her to be social, caring and the natural center of attention. I always thought it was a little weird how quickly and efficiently she managed to change when she went back in time but it turns out that's just how she is naturally; her confidence just took a heavy blow when her friendship with Hozue soured. It's not that her personality took so much of a drastic turn, but rather she just reverted to her normal self after coming to the realization that she can't repeat the same mistakes.

This. The amount of embittered projection in this comments and past ones about about girls needing the "Goblin Slayer treatment" and gallingly fucked up. Like HOLY SHIT some of you people DESPERATELY need therapy and to get out more and touch some grass and breathe some fresh air.

Before going all "ooh my poor girl", don't forget the final result of this. She didn't just resent her and left it at that. She destroyed her life afterwards.
Do we REALLY even know that? Like a HUGE motif of the series is Koharu not just opening up to people and communicating more, but the series also emphasizes that people are messy and complicated ESPECIALLY when they're dumb kids who are learning "how do I person". Like I know the pandemic had a profound effect in how people view interpersonal but DAYUM. Same for the weird trivialization of how the media we consume shapes our views and personalities and habits.

That was it? Jesus what a complete f@#ing bitch. And for the person who asked, no I wasn't perfect in middle school either, but neither did I turn into a malicious monster who took glee in crushing the weak to get off. Yes she had some trauma, but to pay the trauma forward 100x to make sure everyone else suffers so you can stand laughing atop the pile of their weeping bodies is indefensible. She obviously very much enjoys inflicting pain.

Then again, this manga is so good natured (normally, which is why CFB was such a shock) that I'm sure she'll be 'redeemed'. Already starting.

No but like why does her backstory take more than two chapters...

Also, thank you again for updating. Please take a break!

wu ? how do you know it's a different colour (curious)
How do I know she's colorblind? (I don't know, I'm just coming up with a ridiculously contrived "positive" scenario as a parody of how certain conflicts in other manga may be solved with something like "it was all a misunderstanding!")

It's not really about whether someone is forgivable or the measure of their badness (I mean, it definitely is, but when we start hitting that scale it's a different story altogether), but whether they do in fact grow as a person and act in a way that betters the life of those around them, and improves the Folk. Ultimately, this kind of conflict amongst children being solved amongst children is beautiful. The tragedy is that so often it is hard to have a person with both the willingness and wisdom to do so, "the wisdom of an adult in the body of a child".
