wonder how well a surprise would play off irl, but i guess depends on how 'charming/effective' it is, tho even an 'overly scheduled' date seems like it'd be exhausting, unless japanese dating culture it's implied you're spending basically half or the whole date together, hotel room aside, versus like 1-2 hours.
might be better to discuss it tho, esp on a 'first date' if it's not something your friends push you into like a 'blind date' or so, bc if you're already over the awkwardness of asking out and agreeing, other than the 'cliche' date stuff/spots it'd be good to ask what they'd be up for (i do remember one manga chapter of a series where a girl was complaining that her bf planned some 'hiking' date as a surprise? but she wasn't told and she showed up into the date in heels b/c she thought it was gonna be a 'normal' date)
Tho other than the 'affectionate' part like holding hands and maybe a kiss at the end (tho that might be a bit much for a 'first date' even in shoujo manga depending on how fast things go), feels like they could've treated it as a 'casual friend hangout' without the pressure of it being a 'date' or so lol.
